Paul Gubanich, MD, MPH – Senior Medical Director, Ambulatory
Paul Gubanich is Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medicine Center (CCHMC) and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine within the Division of Sports Medicine. He has 20+ years’ experience in evaluation and management of injuries and medical conditions that affect physical activity. He has served as Team Physician and consultant providing care to patients of all abilities including recreational, youth, high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. Dr. Gubanich’s interests in safety, quality improvement, research, and innovation have inspired the development of unique, integrated, and collaborative care models including the creation of a Dance Clinic, and the initiation and standardization of brain injury care at the Cleveland Clinic and Ohio State University. He is a founding member and Co-Director of CCHMC’s BRAIN (Brain Recovery After INjury) Health & Wellness Center, a comprehensive system-wide program that optimizes brain injury care across injury continuum.
As Senior Medical Director of Ambulatory since 2021, Dr. Gubanich directs ambulatory’s collaborative efforts regarding strategy, access, operations, and safety. He works diligently to support the establishment of a system-wide ambulatory safety surveillance system and supportive safety culture. This includes initiatives to enhance safety reporting though the optimization of a 3-tiered huddle system, the categorization and review of safety concerns, and the communication of trends, tips, and learnings.
Dr. Gubanich has participated in 20+ funded research studies and presented at 60+ national meetings. He has mentored 100’s of students, residents, fellows in clinical care, research, and quality improvement initiatives also serving as Fellowship Director for 10 years. His contributions to the field of medicine in research, education, and leadership, have culminated in his induction as fellow to both the AMSSM and ACSM, and appointment as a representative to SPS and contributor to Ambulatory Foundations.
