Maria Geiser has been a Safety Consultant in The James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center since 2006 supporting the portfolio of patient safety work including serious safety events, apparent cause analysis, serious harm event reduction, equity related to safety events, ambulatory safety along with many other quality and safety improvement initiatives. She is a baccalaureate prepared nurse with a master’s in healthcare administration. She worked in pediatric critical care providing bedside care for 10 years and spent 6 years in information services where she was trained as an analyst for Cincinnati Children’s first electronic medical record prior to her focus on safety.
For the past 2 years, Maria has partnered with hospital ambulatory leaders to design, develop and implement an ambulatory safety structure leveraging data from incident reporting and huddles to build a stronger safety culture and identify opportunities for inform improvement in the outpatient environment.
Maria has historical connections to SPS. She participated in the early work of The Ohio Solutions for Patient Safety before the network went national. She joined the SPS national team part time where she worked to develop the culture domain and implement a Serious Safety Event (SSE) Sharing and Learning Program in collaboration with The Children’s Hospital Association Patient Safety Organization. She is currently the SPS project manager for Cincinnati Children’s and a subject matter expert for Ambulatory Foundations.
