Lori Mayer, MSN, RN, CPN, CCRN-K, CPPS is the Nursing Quality and Safety Manager at Hasbro Children’s in Providence, RI. Prior to accepting this role in January 2024, Lori was a staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Hasbro Children’s for 30 years. She has been the co-chair for the unit’s VAE/UE team for the past 10 years and has been actively involved in reducing UE events by instituting a standardized ETT securement method and establishing Airway Rounding in the PICU. Lori recently obtained her MSN in Patient Safety and Quality at Southern New Hampshire University. She has certifications in Pediatric Nursing, Pediatric Critical Care Nursing and is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety. She is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Society of Pediatric Nurses and the National Association for Health Quality. Lori has presented at the Spring 2024 SPS National Learning Session “Building on the Bundle: Strategies to Prevent Unplanned Extubations” and at the SPN 26th Annual Conference “Check Me Out! Peer Validating in the PICU” as well as a poster presentation, “Sensing a Problem: A Teamwork Approach to Eliminating VAP in the PICU”. The poster presentation was also presented at the 2015 SPS National Learning Session. Lori was recognized as the Lifespan CARE Person of the Year in 2018 and awarded the AACN Circle of Excellence Award in 2021. Lori was recently recruited to serve as a New England Regional Champion for SPS, a role that she is looking forward to!
