Dr. Moriarty is a native of Western Massachusetts where he is the Surgeon in Chief at Baystate Children’s Hospital. He is a graduate of both UMass-Amherst and UMMS- Worcester. He completed his General Surgery at Baystate and after Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at The Boston Floating Hospital.
In 2011 he became the Chief of Baystate Pediatric Surgery. He has held multiple leadership roles: Pediatric Trauma Medical Director, President of the Hampden District Medical Society, Board of Trustee of the Massachusetts Medical Society, President of Baystate Medical Center Medical Staff and interim Chairman of Surgery. He is currently a Board of Trustee of Baystate Health, Baycare Health Partners and the treasurer of the Greater Springfield Independent Physician Association.
At Baystate he is most proud of the surgical resident’s accomplishments and the “team” which are all dedicated to children. Eight of his surgical residents have become pediatric surgeons of which 3 came back the Baystate. He received the Teacher of the Year award from the Baystate surgical residents and the William S. Halstead Teaching Award from the Saint Elizabeth’s Surgical Residents. He has over 75 peer review publications with the majority having the trainees as the first author. He was recently awarded the Hampden District Medical Society and The Massachusetts Medical Society Community Clinician of the Year.
He embraces change to better children’s outcomes. He is dedicated to his patients and families. He has received the PRC 5 Star Award for patient satisfaction and currently has a 4.9/5 star rating. He is the proud father of 2 children, a healthcare architect and an oncology nurse. His wife is an OR nurse. He has a dog Leo, likes to ski, golf and travel. Dr. Moriarty is also a bee keeper.
