Katy Murtaugh, RN, BSN, CPHQ, is a Safety-Quality Specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), focused primarily on CLABSI Prevention since 2021. Katy has heralded several initiatives at CHOP, including a stratification of CLABSIs by organism class to focus prevention efforts, a re-implementation of the CLABSI Champion role to maximize engagement, and focused work to reduce CLABSI risk in Behavioral Health populations. Katy has also led adoption of a “CLABSI Continuum” framework to more holistically support caregivers and patients across the inpatient-outpatient continuum; this has led to new work focused on caregiver education, as well as identification and work to mitigate disparity in Ambulatory CLABSIs. Katy is currently pursuing a Master’s in Healthcare Quality and Safety at the University of Pennsylvania.
