Julia Cran is a patient safety specialist at McMaster Children’s Hospital. She focuses on patient safety and harm reduction through her work with Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) and as a surgical clinical reviewer with the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP). Julia is also helping lead the expansion of the Hamilton Pediatric Early Warning System to inpatient areas across MCH.
Julia spent 11 years with the Pediatric Medicine and Complex Care team as a nurse, unit leader and clinical leader. During her time there she worked on several complex quality initiatives including Transfer of Accountability, bedside safety, and redeveloping pediatric inpatient diabetic care. Julia’s passion project was developing a collaborative program for addressing caregiver food insecurity during hospital admissions.
Outside of work Julia likes to escape to warmer climates and recently brought home a rambunctious but cuddly puppy!
