Jim Cappon

James P Cappon, MD, is a pediatrician, VP, and Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer at Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) in Orange, CA. He is the immediate past Interim Chief Medical Officer there. Dr. Cappon previously served as the Medical Director of Quality & Patient Safety, as well as the Patient Safety Officer. His specialty is pediatric critical care medicine, which he continues to practice at CHOC.
Prior to joining CHOC in 1996, Dr. Cappon was the Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Orange County/ Martin Luther King Jr. Medical Center and he completed his residency and internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Cappon graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and attended undergraduate and graduate school. Dr. Cappon has served in pediatric medical leadership positions in Transport, Subacute Medicine, ECMO and Critical Care. He is a recently named Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Improvement Advisor.
Above all, Dr. Cappon is the fortunate father of four children, and grandfather of one granddaughter.
