Dr. Ilana Harwayne-Gidansky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) at The Albany Medical College and practices at Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital in Albany, NY. Dr. Harwayne-Gidansky joined the Children’s Hospital in 2021. Dr. Harwayne-Gidansky attended medical school at the SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, where she graduated _magna cum laude_. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Kravis Children’s Hospital of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, and subsequently completed her fellowship in PCCM at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. After graduation, Dr. Harwayne-Gidansky was on faculty at the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, Renaissance School of Medicine. She is board-certified in both Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and General Pediatrics. Dr. Harwayne-Gidansky’s passion is the interplay between education and quality improvement, specifically around safety behaviors and novel methods of improvement. She is an active member of the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS), and serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for the culture and proactive safety groups. Locally, Dr. Harwayne-Gidansky serves as the Quality leader for the Bernard and Millie Duker Children's Hospital, and the Associate Medical Director for Patient Safety for the Albany Medical Center. In her spare time, she cherishes moments with her family hiking, skiing, ice skating, and enjoying nature, and loves reading science fiction stories.
