Denise Johnson BHSc(PT); MSc

Denise Johnson is the senior manager of patient safety for McMaster Children’s and Women’s Health.

Denise brings over 30 years of healthcare experience to her role. She has worked clinically as a Physiotherapist; in academia as an assistant clinical professor; and in research as a principle investigator. Her roles have spanned the continuum from community care to hospital care and from pediatrics to adults.

Denise holds a Bachelors of Health Science in Physiotherapy and Master of Science, both from McMaster University. Additionally she is lean six sigma green belt trained. She is proud to have been a preceptor for over 50 students from 3 different faculties in her career. She has published several research papers on topics ranging from spasticity assessment, robotics, behavior risk in healthcare, and upper limb assessment.

Denise is a surveyor with Accreditation Canada. She is also a rater for MORE (McMaster Online Rating of Evidence) and a peer reviewer for Physiotherapy Canada.

Denise has successfully lead a multitude of safety and quality improvement projects across Hamilton Health Sciences both at a local level and at a corporate level.

Outside work, Denise is a wife, and mom to 3 grown boys and a black lab. She also loves to travel and explore the outdoors.
