Amy Hobbs has more than 23 years’ experience in pediatric healthcare but has focused the last 11 years on patient safety and performance improvement in the pediatric setting. Amy currently serves as the Director of Quality and Patient Safety at Children’s of Alabama (COA) in Birmingham, Alabama which is the only hospital dedicated solely to children in the state. Amy leads, directs, and oversees the Quality and Patient Safety Programs at COA and champions quality and safety by leading SPS initiatives and promoting a culture of safety. Manages and oversees the patient safety efforts and the patient safety program of the hospital/health system including conduction of root cause, failure mode, and human factors analyses and implementing interventions. Oversees the patient safety program which includes patient safety staff members, patient safety committees / projects and facilitates performance teams to ensure utilization of effective patient safety tools and methodologies to accomplish intended outcomes for improving patient safety. Further, Amy led the initial transition into a High Reliability Organization (HRO) in 2016 and continues to champion the implementation of HRO principles into all units and areas in the health system. She earned her BSN in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Prior to leading Safety efforts, Amy served as neonatal nurse. Amy has furthered her education through obtaining the Quality & Safety Certificate from UAB, Lean Healthcare Certification from University of Michigan, Patient Safety Certification through the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management and Just Culture Certification.
